VGDS is a public dental scheme intended to provide both basic preventative and restorative oral health care benefits to eligible Victorians. It was established with the view of making it easier for Victorians to access affordable dental services.

When your local community dental practice can not give you primary care, you may be issued a voucher to visit a private dentist. You’ll be charged the same amount as if you were visiting a community dental clinic. However, the voucher may not cover certain dental services. In this case, you may have treatment at a private clinic, but the cost will be entirely your responsibility.

  • Vouchers are only good for 3 months after they have been issued.
  • Co-payments are required for each item, which is $30. This voucher is valued at $875.

(Amounts quoted are valid as of March 2022).

You must fulfill specific criteria to utilize the public dentistry system. There may be additional criteria for acceptance of dental specialist services.
